SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to field Tasadduq Mufti, brother of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, from Islamabad parliamentary constituency for the upcoming by-election while, Nazir Ahmad Khan, will be fielded from Srinagar constituency.

A meeting of PDP’s Political Affairs Committee headed by Mehbooba was held in Jammu on Monday.

Tasadduq, a cinematographer by profession, joined the PDP on January 7 this year, on the death anniversary of his father and former chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.

Khan, former Congressman from Beerwah constituency, joined the PDP last month. He had given tough fight to former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in 2014 Assembly elections from the constituency, losing by just 1000 votes. Son of Muhammad Sarfaraz Khan, an associate of late Sayeed, Khan has been active in politics for many years.

Meanwhile, a meeting of opposition National Conference’s core group is going on in Srinagar to decide on the candidature to Islamabad and Srinagar constituencies for By-Polls

The Srinagar segment will go to polls on April 9 to be followed by Anantnag segment on April 12.
