Government on Tuesday announced a compensation of Rs 6 lacs to those who were killed, Rs 2 lacs to those seriously injured while one lac for those who have suffered minor injuries in Batengoo attack on late Monday afternoon. The driver of the bus carrying the Yatris has been awarded Rs 3 lacs for bravery, sources said.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting here Tuesday afternoon that was chaired by CM Mehbooba Mufti.

The cabinet hailed the hospitality of Kashmiris who unequivocally condemned the incident.

Cabinet resolved that the Kashmiri ethos was deeply hurt by the barbaric killings and efforts are being taken to revive it.

Sources privy to the meeting said that the cabinet expressed deep appreciation for the heroic role played by the local people of Anantnag, in providing immediate relief and succor to the victims of the attack. It noted with gratitude the help they rendered to the Yatris and the administration in managing the situation including the donation of blood.

They added that the police was asked to firm up the security systems to ensure yatra remains incident free.

The cabinet also observed two minutes silence for the deceased.

Meanwhile, sources told Kashmir Life that all the injured have been shifted albeit two pilgrims, who are still under treatment in SKIMS Soura. However, their condition is stated to be out of danger.
