The cable operator’s association staged a protest at press colony here against the “sealing of their offices”. Some of the protesters tried self immolation but the timely intervention of police prevented them.

The operators shouted slogans in favor of their demand of reopening of their offices and letting them do their business.

The authorities on Monday sealed ‘Sen TV’ network office in Srinagar, for allegedly airing few channels illegally.

Stating proper document works and all evidence of a contract with authorities to air channels, the protesters said “they feel hoodwinked”.

The protests were saved from taking an ugly shape, when few protestors tried to set ablaze themselves by throwing kerosene on themselves. “We have been left jobless so it is better to finish ourselves to get rid of the day today problems,” they said.

The protesters were alleging that their offices in Srinagar have been shut on the advice of Davinder Singh Rana, provincial president of ruling National Conference. They shouted slogans against Rana.
