‘Mutahida Majlis-e-Mashawrat’ (MMM), a ‘joint resistance platform’ of the separatist parties and groups suffered a jolt only hours after its formation when Hurriyat conference (G) disassociated itself from it (MMM). MMM is claiming to be the ‘joint resistance platform’ of all the separatist parties and groups formed to lead the protests to press for the return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru, parliament attack convict, who was hanged and buried in Tihar jail Delhi on February 9.
“We have not been taken into confidence and even we have not been consulted to send our representative to participate in the meetings of MMM, so we are not a part of it, however, we are not against the protest programe publicized by the MMM,” a local news agency KNS, said quoting Hurriyat spokesman, Dr Ghulam Mohammad Ganai.
It added that the spokesman said that he was issuing the statement on behalf of G N Sumji, general secretary of the amalgam.
The spokesman also said that their group has not been taken into confidence and nobody consulted the Hurriyat (G) leadership regarding the formation of MMM and issuing the protest calendar.
When contacted, a senior separatist leader, by Kashmir life, he said that in the meeting held on Monday, two representatives of Hurriyat (G) were present. “The two people who are known to us belong to the Hurriyat (G), they participated in the meeting held on Monday and endorsed the protest calendar,” the leader said on the conditions of anonymity.
When asked that why Hurriyat (G) itself disassociated itself from MMM and said that it was not represented by anybody in the meeting, he said, “either it is a communication gap between the Hurriyat (G) members or the amalgam does not want unity”.
“If Hurriyat(G) had to know about the meeting of MMM and its representatives who were present in the meeting, it should have contacted either of the parties who are a part of MMM before disassociating itself from the forum through media,” he said.
Pertinently, MMM issued a protest calendar on Monday and claimed that it was endorsed by the representatives of Hurriyat (M), Hurriyat (G), Liberation Front, Jamaat-e-Islami, Dukhtaran-e-Millat and Bar Association.
