Cambodia to Nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize Over Thailand Ceasefire

SRINAGAR: Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol announced on Friday that the country plans to nominate former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The decision comes after Trump reportedly played a key role in defusing a recent border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand, reports Reuters.

“Yes.” He also expressed gratitude for a reduced U.S tariff rate on Cambodian exports down to 19 percent from a previously proposed 49 percent and pledged zero tariffs on American goods entering Cambodia, it reports.

Earlier the same day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as per BBC report stated similar support, stating, “Donald Trump should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.” She cited his efforts to resolve international conflicts, including the long-standing tension between India and Pakistan. Pakistan was the first country to publicly announce plans to nominate Trump for the award.

Since May 10, Trump has repeatedly claimed on social media that India and Pakistan agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire following overnight negotiations led by the US. He maintains that Washington played a central role in brokering the talks between the two nuclear-armed nations.
