KU holds Day Long Industry-Institution Interaction on April 21, 2016

Department of Food Science and Technology at University of Kashmir on Thursday organized a day-long Industry-Institution Interaction Session.

Siraj A Chaudhary, Chairperson of Cargill India Pvt Ltd, was chief guest on the occasion while Prof F A Masoodi, Head of the department, presented the background and objectives of the session, a varsity statement said.

KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Khursheed Iqbal Andrabi in his interaction with Chaudhary emphasized the importance of strong linkages of industry with institutions. He also summarized the efforts made by the university to strengthening such associations.

Dean of Academic Affairs at KU, Prof Mohammad Ashraf Wani, Dean College Development Council, Prof Nilofar Khan and Dean, Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, Prof G M Bhat were present on the occasion.

The speakers appreciated the efforts of the department to develop a close liaison between industry and institution.

During a technical session, Siraj delivered a talk on “Indian Food Industry – An Opportunity Area”.

Representatives from local food industry and students also shared their views and highlighted the problems faced by local food industries and deliberated on the opportunities in this sector.

There was a panel discussion on “Modalities to enhance industrial linkages” wherein experts from management studies, food technology and industrialists participated. It generated a discussion about roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in developing food processing into a sunrise industry. It was emphasized that industries should come forward for training and placement of trained graduates.

It was also proposed that the government should incentivise the industries for providing opportunities to skilled and trained youth in exploring the possibilities of livelihood in industrial sector.
