Former legislator and senior CPI (M) leader Mohammed Yousaf Tarigami has questioned slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on the two senior leaders in Kashmir Valley.

“It was really unfortunate and shocking how senior leaders were kept under detention for six months, and then, two of them were booked under Public Safety Act (PSA),” said Tarigami, while issuing a statement here.

It may be reminded here that National Conference leader and ex-Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and PDP leader and former Deputy Speaker Sartaj Madni have been booked under PSA.

Tarigami questioned the claims being made by the Union Government in the Parliament that normalcy has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Is it a sigh of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir where leaders have been booked under PSA after keeping them under detention for six months? he questioned the decision of the Government.

Tarigami said that “On one-side, you have booked political leaders under PSA and on other, the Government has announced to hold Panchayat elections in J&K on the vacant posts.”

He said that these steps of the Government are not good for the democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.

He demanded that all the leaders, who have been under detention in Kashmir, should be set free so that the political process is started.

“Making false claims will further alienate the people of Kashmir,” he added.

Pertinently, National Conference leader and ex-Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and PDP leader and former Deputy Speaker Sartaj Madni (Mehbooba’s uncle) have been detained under Public Safety Act soon after they were shifted from MLA hostel.
