SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Tariq Hameed Karra, on Tuesday announced that a one-day workshop on caste census will be held shortly in both Srinagar and Jammu, as part of a broader awareness campaign across the Union Territory.
Karra made the announcement while chairing a meeting of District Congress Committee (DCC) Presidents from Kashmir region and heads of frontal organisations at the party’s Srinagar office. He urged all district presidents to ensure their active participation, along with constituency representatives, to disseminate awareness about the significance of caste census down to the grassroots level.
The meeting thoroughly reviewed organisational activities across districts and discussed the current political and security situation, particularly in light of the recent Pahalgam carnage, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The leaders condemned the incident, calling it “ghastly and highly condemnable.”
The party also deliberated on the ongoing Samvidhan Bachao Divas campaign launched by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Expressing gratitude to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, the participants hailed his persistent efforts inside and outside Parliament in pushing the government to announce the caste census.
“The caste census is a vital step towards ending discrimination, and Rahul Gandhi’s unrelenting efforts have forced the central government to concede,” Karra said during the meeting.
Karra received feedback on party functioning from DCC Presidents and resolved to strengthen mass public contact initiatives and grassroots-level activities to ensure the success of the Samvidhan Bachao mission across Jammu and Kashmir.
Among those present at the meeting were J&K Mahila Congress President Shameema Raina, and DCC Presidents Irfan Naqib (Srinagar), Iqbal Mir (Baramulla), Javed Ahmad Mir (Kupwara), Zaffar Farooq Salati (Anantnag), Abdul Rashid Lone (Kulgam), Umer Jaan (Pulwama), Er. Muzaffar Dar (Budgam), Sheikh Aijaz (Ganderbal), and Mushtaq Ahmad Tantray (Bandipora), along with Youth District leaders including Manpreet Singh and Yasir Nissar Mundoo.
