Srinagar: National Conference on Saturday said Chief Minister Mehboba Mufti’s and PDP Spokesperson Naeem Akhtar’s efforts to misattribute Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s misdeeds and political tyranny to National Conference was ridiculous and indicated the depth of distortion being used by the party to absolve itself of selling its conscience to the BJP.
Reacting sharply to ‘fallacious and baseless’ statements issued by Mehbooba Mufti and Naeem Akhtar intended to mislead the people, NC state spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu said it none other than Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Sahab who plunged the state into an era of bloodshed, injustice, chaos and turmoil.
“Irony is that PDP – in the haste of issuing a baseless statement – forgot that it was Mufti Sahab who was the architect of ‘Operation Catch and Kill’ which was used to kill hundreds if not thousands of young men in an extra-judicial onslaught that was unprecedented and unimaginable. It was Mufti Sahab who was the architect of Operation Tiger too and he was instrumental in perpetrating heinous massacres in Kashmir through Governor Jagmohan who was appointed to the post at the singular behest of the then Union Home Minister, Mr. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed”, the NC State Spokesperson said in a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar.
The NC Spokesperson said it was “Late Mufti Sahab who was responsible for the heinous Gaw Kadal, Hawal, Handwara, Bijbehara and Pazipora Massacres and the extension of AFSPA to Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Under Late Mufti Sahab’s rule as the Home Minister of India, Kashmir saw the bloodies days in its contemporary history as thousands of young men and women were mowed down like cattle under the Mufti-Jagmohan-RSS partnership. Has Mehbooba Mufti forgotten about those genocides and massacres? Did these people deserve to die? Was a murder not a murder when Mufti Sahab used to contest from R. S. Pura and Muzaffarnagar?”, the NC Spokesperson asked.
“After misleading militant commanders in order to attain political power, it was none other than Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti who ordered an all-out, unprecedented spree of targeted assassinations of the same militant commanders who had declared a ceasefire. It was none other than PDP and Mufti Sahab who institutionalized the Task Force and SOG by delegating them to every police station in the state after misleading the people about disbanding the units.”
Spokesmna further said “while late Mufti was talking of disbanding the units in Kashmir, he was simultaneously seeking budgetary allocations for STF and SOG from New Delhi.”
The NC Spokesperson expressed amusement at Mehbooba Mufti’s allegations against NC and said it was none other than Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who, while in different parties, left no stone unturned to erode the special constitutional status of the state.
“Mufti Sahab was a part of every single pliant government that eroded Article 370 and facilitated the extension of Central Laws into J&K. Has PDP forgotten the history of their own patron? It was Mufti Sahab who made a mockery of democracy in Kashmir when nomination papers of candidates were torn and trashed as ‘Khaliq Made MLAs’ were foisted over the people. This too is a legacy of Late Mufti Sahab”, the NC Spokesperson further said.
“Whatever little Mufti Sahab had left to be done was done by Mehbooba Mufti when she lorded over a heinous, barbaric massacre of young men and women in 2016 and went to the extent of ridiculing the grieving, devastated parents of these young victims. People haven’t forgotten her ‘toffees and milk’ insensitive, brutish and shameful sarcasm that she used to mock bereaved families.
“National Conference doesn’t need lecture from collaborators, agents and proxy-entities who have sold their conscience to the BJP and the RSS. We will give a befitting response to the PDP-BJP combine on the 9th and the 11th of April”, the NC Spokesperson further added.
