SRINAGAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday said it had arrested a Section Officer of the Sheep & Husbandry and Fisheries Section, Agriculture Production Department, Civil Secretariat, Government of J&K, Jammu, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant through a UPI transaction.
“A case was registered on 05.03.2025 by CBI against the accused on allegations that he demanded a bribe of ₹5 lakh from the complainant for issuing/processing the case of his father for appointment as a Stock Assistant in the department, pursuant to Advertisement No. 3 of 2007 of the J&K Service Selection Board and CAT (Jammu) order dated 15.10.2024. The bribe amount was allegedly negotiated, and the accused asked for an initial payment of ₹50,000 via online UPI. Once a favourable decision was taken in this regard, the accused was to demand the remaining amount,” a spokesman said in a statement.
CBI laid a trap on March 5, 2025, and caught the accused after he demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant through an online UPI transaction using the mobile number provided by him. CBI also conducted searches at the accused’s residential premises in Jammu, he said.
The accused was subsequently arrested and produced before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu, on March 6, 2025. The learned court remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days, the statement reads, adding that the investigation is ongoing. (KNO)
