SRINAGAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Junior Assistant posted in the office of the Superintending Engineer, PHE Mechanical Urban Circle, Narwal, Jammu, in connection with an alleged bribery case.
According to an official statement, the CBI registered the case on Sunday following a complaint alleging that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 4,500 from the complainant for processing and clearing the latter’s pension case.
The agency said the accused had allegedly shared a QR code via WhatsApp to receive the bribe amount.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on May 24, 2026, and caught the accused while allegedly accepting the bribe through the digital payment mode. The Junior Assistant was subsequently arrested on Monday.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
