CCTV Footage Leads to Arrest in Srinagar Shop Theft: Police

   

SRINAGAR: Srinagar Police have solved a theft case and arrested the individual involved in the commission of the crime.

“On 15 April 2025, Police Post Bagyas received a written complaint from one Tauseef Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Ashraf Mir, resident of Kaksarai. He stated that during the intervening night of 14–15 April 2025, unknown person(s) had stolen approximately ₹10 lakh from a drawer inside his shop in Kaksarai, Srinagar,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Safakadal, and investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, multiple suspects were questioned regarding their possible involvement. “Analysis of technical evidence and detailed CCTV footage led to the arrest of the accused, identified as Umar Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Ashraf Mir, resident of Chanipora, Karnah. Following his disclosure, stolen cash amounting to ₹7,50,530, a scooty, and a mobile phone purchased using the stolen money were recovered from his possession.”

Further investigation is ongoing to identify any additional links.
