SRINAGAR: In response to the destruction caused by the recent cloudburst in Ramban district, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the affected areas today to assess the situation on the ground.
The calamity has claimed three lives and caused widespread damage to homes, vehicles, and vital road infrastructure. Ramban district, regarded as the main link between the Kashmir Valley and Jammu, remained cut off for a second day due to debris and damage along the National Highway, the region’s primary transport route.
While interacting with local residents and officials, the Chief Minister was briefed on the extent of the damage and the ongoing rescue and relief operations. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public of the government’s full support.
“The scale of destruction is deeply distressing. Our administration is on the ground, working continuously to ensure the safety, relief, and rehabilitation of every affected family,” said Omar Abdullah.
“We will leave no stone unturned in supporting our people during this difficult time,” he added.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned departments to expedite restoration work on the highway to resume vehicular movement at the earliest.
Officials from the district administration informed the Chief Minister that clearance operations were underway. Teams from the Public Works Department (PWD), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), disaster response units, police, volunteers, and local residents are engaged in round-the-clock efforts to remove mudslides and boulders and restore normalcy in the affected areas.
Accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban and senior civil and police officials, the Chief Minister travelled by road from Srinagar to reach Marog, one of the worst-affected villages.
