SRINAGAR: The Ministry of Education has appointed Professor Anurag Misra, a faculty member of the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Jammu, as the new Director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, ending a wait of more than two years for a regular incumbent to head the institute.
The Department of Higher Education issued the appointment order on July 29, stating that the appointment was made by the President of India in her capacity as Visitor of the NITs.
Prof Misra will serve for five years from the date he assumes charge or until he reaches the age of 70, whichever is earlier.
The Ministry has directed the Director of IIT Jammu to relieve Misra at the earliest so that he can take charge at NIT Srinagar. It has also asked NIT Srinagar Director-in-Charge Prof Binod Kanaujia to hand over the charge to the newly appointed director.
Misra previously served as Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Dean of Infrastructure Planning and Management at IIT Jammu. He holds a PhD in Concrete Repairs from Queen’s University Belfast in the United Kingdom and has more than three decades of experience spanning academia, research and the infrastructure industry.
His professional career has also included serving as a Chief Executive Officer in the infrastructure sector, Professor and Head of Structural Engineering at MNIT Jaipur, and visiting academic assignments in the UK.
His research work focuses on sustainable construction materials, low-carbon cements, non-destructive testing of concrete and concrete durability.
