SRINAGAR: The Jammu division is likely to receive heavy rainfall over the coming days, raising the possibility of flash floods, landslides and mudslides, while the Kashmir Valley is expected to see mostly stable weather with intermittent light rain and brief showers, Meteorological Department Director Mukhtar Ahmad said on Thursday.
Ahmad said no major spell of rainfall was expected in the Valley, with cloudy conditions and occasional light showers likely to persist until around August 5.
“There is no significant weather activity expected in the Kashmir Valley,” Ahmad said, adding that the weather would remain neither completely dry nor continuously wet.
He said widespread rainfall activity was expected on Thursday, with brief showers likely at most places in the Valley and across several districts of Jammu division. Some areas could also experience intense showers.
The Jammu region is likely to face a further spell of heavy rain during the late-night and early-morning hours of Friday, while additional heavy spells are expected between August 2 and 3 and August 3 and 4, according to the MeT department.
Ahmad warned that intense rainfall in vulnerable areas could trigger flash floods, while heavy rain may also lead to landslides, mudslides and shooting stones, particularly in hilly areas.
He advised travellers, commuters, tourists and transporters to take weather conditions into account while planning journeys, particularly in the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal region and along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
