The decision, issued on April 6, 2026, increases the supply based on the average daily distribution recorded between March 2 and 3, and allows States to exceed the earlier 20 percent cap set under previous guidelines.

According to official communication from the Ministry to States, the enhanced allocation is aimed at strengthening the availability of small LPG cylinders, which are primarily used by migrant populations in urban and semi-urban areas.

The cylinders will be distributed through State governments and their food and civil supplies departments, and are intended exclusively for migrant labourers.

The government also noted that around 6.75 lakh such cylinders have been sold since March 23, highlighting rising demand and the need for expanded supply.
