Trump Warns of Swift Strike on Iran, Sets Deadline to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

SRINAGAR: US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, stating that the United States could carry out a massive military strike if Tehran fails to reach an agreement and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route, before the set deadline.

Speaking at a press conference at the White House, Trump said the US could target Iran’s energy and transport infrastructure if the Strait remains closed. He warned that Iranian systems could be destroyed rapidly, while noting that some Iranian officials appear willing to negotiate, though the outcome remains uncertain.

Iran has rejected US proposals for a ceasefire, instead demanding an end to hostilities, reconstruction support, and the lifting of sanctions.

Trump also criticised Pacific and NATO allies for not backing US efforts to reopen the Strait, expressing disappointment over their lack of support despite past US assistance.

The briefing was attended by senior officials, including Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine and US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and comes days after US forces recovered two crew members of a downed F-15 fighter jet in southern Iran.
