Chanpora hit-and-run case: Police seizes truck, arrests driver

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said they have arrested the absconding driver and also seized the truck involved in the hit-and-run case in uptown Srinagar on April 1.

A police spokesperson said the circulation of a news item in the media played a vital role in the identification of the truck and subsequent arrest of the accused driver.

“Few days back Srinagar police circulated news item in print  & social media regarding the identification of truck involved in hit & run case on Chanapora bye-pass near Haryana marbles in which one person had lost his life,” a spokesman said.

“Photographs of the truck involved in the case were obtained from the CCTV footage &  accordingly circulated for identification & help was sought from the general public,” the spokesman said.

The circulation of news item along with photographs of truck proved very useful & finally led to the identification of the said truck with registration no JK13D 5118 and was accordingly seized and the driver was arrested.

“In this regard case FIR 49/2018 under section 279, 337, 304-A RPC stands registered in Police Station Sadder and investigation is undergoing on.”

Srinagar police has thanked the general public and media for their co-operation in nabbing the accused.
