The Crime Branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday filed a charge sheet against a man who allegedly used forged letters of former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to get heli tickets to the Mata Vaishnodevi cave shrine in 2017, an official spokesman said.

An official spokesman in a statement said that Crime Branch Jammu produced Charge-sheet against accused imposter Sandeep Koul son of Pran Nath 578, Sec-3 Channi Himmat, Jammu (Proprietor Desh Pradesh tour and travels Shastri Nagar Jammu) A/P H. No. 397, Sector – 4 Channi Himmat, Jammu in case FIR No.69/2017 U/S 420, 465, 468, 471 P/S Katra for preparing and forging letter head of late Sushma Swaraj- former External Affairs Minister Govt. of India with the intention to procure Helicopter tickets on priority from SMVD, SB Katra authorities by committing fraud.

“Onkar Singh, Dy Divisional Manager (Oprs.) SMVD, SB Katra, lodged a complaint in Police Station Katra against imposter wherein it was alleged that the protocol wing of SMVD shrine Board Katra has been receiving letters recommending therein priorities for helicopter tickets. The accused using a fake ID had sought favour from the Shrine Board after preparing the official letter head of the former External Affairs Minister Govt. of India and appended scanned signatures of the Minister to use the same to his advantage,” he said.

“The criminal case lodged in Police Station Katra was transferred to Crime Branch, Jammu with the orders of PHQ J&K and investigation of the case was conducted by Crime Branch, Jammu. The case was blind in nature. However, during investigation documentary/oral, electronic and scientific evidence were collected and charges of preparing fake priority letters using them as genuine with criminal intention of fetching more money from the pilgrims were proved against the accused. The Charge sheet was produced in the Court of Sub-Judge Katra on 01-01-2020,” said the spokesman.
