SRINAGAR

The father of one of the Nowgam slain youth Tuesday accused successive state governments of being callous towards their miseries.

Faisal Yousuf Bhat and Mehraj ud Din Dar, both residents of Nowgam Srinagar, were killed last year on November 3 at Chattergam when a patrolling party from 53 RR indiscriminately fired upon their private vehicle.

Muhammad Yousuf Bhat, father of Faisal who refused to take compensation from Army told CNS that he doesn’t know about the “fate of the Army men” who were held responsible for killing his son.

“They (Army) say the guilty killers were court martialled. I never saw those army men and don’t know whether they have been punished or not. I am sure they might have been posted somewhere else. It would have been fair enough to put those on trial in a Civil Court,” Bhat said adding that “court martial mantra of Army was to hoodwink the families”.

“I tried to meet or contact almost all the politicians but all refused to see me. Nobody listened to me. Both the previous and present governments approach was insensitive. The irony is that police lobbed tear-smoke shells in the premises of mourners today and stopped people from offering special prayers in favour of Faisal and Mehraj. This is the height of repression,” he said.
