SRINAGAR: The water level in the Chenab River is likely to rise by around 2 to 3 metres from Sunday evening as NHPC’s Dulhasti Power Station undertakes scheduled silt flushing of the Dul Dam reservoir.
According to the Dulhasti Power Station, the mandatory periodic operation will begin at 8 pm on August 9 and continue until 6 pm on August 10.
The power station has advised residents living along the Chenab River to remain alert, warning that water released from the reservoir could cause a sudden rise in the river’s level.
Residents have been asked to pay attention to the warning siren sounded before water is released and strictly follow directions displayed on warning boards installed along the riverbanks.
People have also been advised to keep away from the riverbanks during the operation and avoid fishing, extracting sand or wood, or crossing the river except through designated bridges.
The NHPC has further cautioned residents against allowing cattle to graze near the riverbanks while the silt-flushing operation is in progress.
