JAMMU

Secretary CPI (M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has flayed what he called continuous crackdown against hapless workers of Chenani-Nasari four-lane road & tunnel project who staged a sit-in on Saturday in front of divisional commissioner office in Jammu.

Pertinently, the workers and their families staged a sit in at divisional commissioner office in Jammu which was supported by CITU, BMS, INTUC and AITUC. Almost all speakers condemned the police action against workers saying that instead of facilitating a meaningful solution, the administration has used police to create a battle field situation.

In a statement Tarigami said, “I think the government has decided to gift atrocities to the families of these workers on the eve of Diwali festival. The police action against these helpless workers has created a scene of war in an enemy territory. This is the height of injustice and can never be tolerated by any civilized society.”

The CPI (M) leader said that the company management and the administration are equally responsible for the deplorable condition of workers of the project. He said the management of the project should carry the workers along and not to take them at a ride. “The management should listen to them, talk to them; engage them allow them to protest and accommodate their long pending demands,” Tarigami remarked.

The CPI (M) leader stressed upon the government to avoid confrontation and find out an amicable solution to the issues through negotiations with the representatives of workers unions and associations.

The CPI (M) leader demanded that the workers who have been terminated by the Leighton Company should be reinstated without any further delay and they shall also be provided facilities under Labour Act. He said the workers demand for classification and categorization on the basis of their skills and the nature of jobs should be accepted by the company.
