The Department of Law, University of Kashmir is hosting a mega felicitation function for the students of Law in Convocation Complex, University of Kashmir on Monday June 17 where Chief Justice of India will later inaugurate a legal Services Clinic at the department of Law.

Hon’ble Justice Altamas Kabir, the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Guest of the function will felicitate the students of law. He will address on the theme “Legal Education: Opportunities and Challenges”.

Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-chancellor, University of Kashmir will make a presentation on University’s achievements and will unravel road map of the University to be followed in the days ahead.

This is a momentous occassion for the students of Department of Law for Hon’ble Justice Altamas Kabir, the Chief Justice India, is the first Chief Justice of India who is visiting University of Kashmir to address students of Law. There can be no better role model for the students of Law in their professional career than the Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts, said Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir, Head & Dean, Faculty of Law. “This function will give students of Law a rare opportunity to be in the midst of Legal luminaries,” he added.

After the conclusion of the function, Justice Altamas Kabir and Patron-in-Chief National Legal Services Authority, Hon’ble Justice TS Thakur, Judge Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Justice MM Kumar, Chief Justice of High Court of J&K, and Patron-in-Chief State Legal Services Authority and Justice  Virender Singh, Judge, High Court of J&K and Executive Chairman State Legal Service Authority shall be conducted to Department  of Law, University of Kashmir for the  inauguration of Legal Services Clinic.

It is expected that some of the applications already received by the Legal Services Clinic will be disposed of in the presence of Chief Justice of India.

Earlier Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir, Head & Dean, Faculty of Law will present welcome address and departmental profile, Justice MM Kumar, the Chief Justice of J&K High Court will deliver an inaugural address. The theme of the address is “Opportunities in the Legal Profession”. Justice TS Thakur, Judge Supreme Court of India will be the Guest of Honour who will share his experiences as a Lawyer and Judge.
