SRINAGAR: China has called for a swift and fair investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack and voiced support for Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty and security interests.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar over the phone, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.
Wang said that China was closely following the situation. He said fighting terrorism was a shared global responsibility and reaffirmed China’s support for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts.
He also stressed that conflict was not in the interest of either India or Pakistan and urged both sides to exercise restraint and de-escalate tensions.
Ishaq Dar said Pakistan remains committed to fighting terrorism and managing the situation responsibly. He added that Islamabad would continue communication with China and the international community.
On April 23, China had strongly condemned the attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead, most of them tourists.
