A top militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit accused in 2011 New Delhi High Court blast was killed during a gunfight with government forces in Kishtwar district Thursday late evening, officials said on Friday.

The gunfight broke out Thursday evening near Navpachchi in Kishtwar district,. “A Militant who was involved in Delhi High Court Blast of Sept. 2011 was killed by forces last evening,” reportedly said S N Acharaya, army spokesman based in Jammu. “The militant when challenged by our troops opened fire indiscriminately but was killed in retaliatory fire.”
The slain militant, identified as Shakir Hussain Sheikh alias Chota Hafiz, was a local cadre of the HM. Sheikh, according to police, was the prime accused in the Delhi High Court blast case,” he added.

Last year on Sept. 7, at least 10 people were killed and 70 others wounded in a bomb blast outside New Delhi High Court.
