Srinagar: Intense clashes erupted in Yaripora area of Kulgam district in southern part of Kashmir as police and forces resorted to tear smoke shelling to disperse hundreds of protesters who pelted stones on police station at Yaripora on Tuesday.

Soon after the news broke that a local militant Touseef Ahmad Wagay son of Ghulam Qadir Wagay, has been killed in an encounter with forces in Chadoora, protesters hit the streets.

Reports said that people marched towards the police station for demanding the dead body. They said that raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters resorted to stone pelting on the police station which was retaliated with massive tear gas and stun grenade shelling.

Touseef, according to reports, was a resident of Kanjikulla, village of Yaripora area in Kulgam district.
