Intense clashes started after militant trio were buried in South Kashmir’s Bijbehara town.

Reports and witness accounts said that youth resorted to heavy stone pelting while forces stationed in the area retaliated with tear gas shelling. They also resorted to aerial firing.

Three militants identified as Sartaj Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone resident of Wopzan, Bijbehara, Adil Ahmad Sheikh son of Fayaz Ahmad resident of Sheikh Mohalla, Bijbehara and Tanveer Ahmad Bhat son of Mubarak Ahmad Bhat resident of Baba Mohalla Bijbehara were killed in a n encounter with forces Monday evening at Ashmuqam area of Islamabad.

The trio, locals of Bijbehara, were laid to rest Tuesday morning amid participation of thousands of people in their Nimaz-i-Jinaza.

Reports said that heavy deployment of forces has been made in the area, however, people rallied behind the coffins of the militant trio.

Several youth are reported to have been injured in the clashes while two are said to be hit by tear gas shells.

Octogenarian Hurriyat chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani, called for a shutdown today against the death of three militants.
