SRINAGAR: A cloudburst struck the Chatroo area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district in the early hours of Saturday, washing away several vehicles, damaging property and forcing the closure of the Chatroo–Kishtwar National Highway, officials said.
The cloudburst occurred at around 2.30 a.m., triggering a sudden surge of water and debris that affected parts of the area. Several vehicles are believed to have been washed away, while damage to property has also been reported.
Officials said the full extent of the damage was yet to be ascertained and assessment of losses was underway.
No loss of life or injuries had been reported in the incident till the filing of this report, according to officials.
Meanwhile, the Chatroo–Kishtwar National Highway has been closed to vehicular traffic as a precaution, with authorities monitoring the situation and further updates awaited.
