SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday chaired a review meeting of the School Education Department at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, focusing on measures to improve enrolment at the higher secondary level and expand access to Classes XI and XII.
A key issue discussed was the phased conversion of 714 High Schools into K-12 composite schools, with the meeting reviewing requirements related to teaching and non-teaching staff, infrastructure, laboratories and other essential facilities.
The proposed upgradation is aimed at ensuring continuity in school education beyond Class 10 and improving access to higher secondary education, particularly in underserved areas.
The initiative is also intended to address student dropouts at the transition from Class 10 to higher secondary education by enabling students to continue their studies within the same school system.
The meeting primarily reviewed the phased implementation plan and the resources required to carry out the proposed upgradation of the schools.
