SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is presently away from the Kashmir Valley and is expected to return on Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association said on Friday, clarifying that reports suggesting that a delegation of protesting MBBS interns would meet the Chief Minister today are incorrect.
The association said the interns’ concerns are, however, being taken up with the concerned authorities, with the Chief Minister’s Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani, scheduled to meet a delegation of the protesting MBBS interns at the Chief Minister’s Office today.
According to the association, the meeting was sought to facilitate a detailed discussion on the issues raised by the interns, particularly their “long-pending and legitimate” demand for a stipend and other related concerns.
The meeting is expected to provide representatives of the protesting interns an opportunity to present their concerns before the authorities and deliberate on the issues, the association said.
It added that the discussions would also focus on exploring a concrete and time-bound way forward to address the interns’ grievances.
“We remain hopeful that the discussions will help facilitate an early and satisfactory resolution to the genuine concerns of the interns,” the association said.
The clarification comes amid reports and speculation regarding a possible meeting between the protesting MBBS interns and the Chief Minister on Friday. The association said such reports were not correct as Omar Abdullah is not currently in the Valley.
