SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday congratulated mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Owais Yaqoob on his victory at BRAVE CF 107 in Bulgaria, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the Union Territory and the country.
In a congratulatory message, the Chief Minister praised Yaqoob for defeating previously unbeaten two-time IMMAF World Champion Delyan Georgiev and wished him continued success on the international stage.
Yaqoob secured the biggest win of his professional career on August 1 at BRAVE CF 107 in Burgas, Bulgaria, where he stopped Bulgarian fighter Delyan Georgiev with a first-round technical knockout (TKO). The bout ended four minutes into the opening round after the JK fighter dominated with a clinical striking display.
The victory improved Yaqoob’s professional MMA record to 6-1 and marked his third successive win under the BRAVE Combat Federation banner.
Congratulating the fighter, the Chief Minister said the triumph reflected the talent emerging from Jammu and Kashmir and expressed hope that Yaqoob would continue to bring laurels to the Union Territory and India on the global stage.
Yaqoob’s victory over the previously undefeated Georgiev is being regarded as a significant milestone in his career and a major achievement for Indian mixed martial arts.
