CM Omar Hails Mohammad Yasser’s Historic Gold Medal Win at Asian Boxing Championship

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday congratulated Rajouri’s young boxer Mohammad Yasser for winning a gold medal at the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Fourteen-year-old Yasser created history by becoming the first boxer from Jammu and Kashmir to secure a gold medal at the prestigious continental championship. Competing in the 58-kg category, the young pugilist defeated opponents from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Iran before overcoming Uzbekistan’s boxer 4-1 in the final.

A trainee at the Khelo India Centre in Rajouri, Yasser delivered a dominant performance throughout the tournament, bringing laurels to Jammu and Kashmir and the country.

In his congratulatory message, the Chief Minister described the achievement as a moment of pride and honour for the region and praised the boxer’s dedication, determination and hard work. He said the victory reflected the growing sporting talent emerging from Jammu and Kashmir.

Abdullah also expressed hope that Yasser’s success would inspire young sportspersons across the Union Territory to pursue excellence in sports with commitment and perseverance.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure, the Chief Minister said efforts would continue to provide talented youth with opportunities to excel at national and international platforms.
