SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday apprehended six persons allegedly involved in gambling in the Pahalgam area and recovered stake money amounting to Rs 18,260 from their possession.
According to police, a team from Police Station Pahalgam was conducting routine patrolling at Lidder Park near Sumo Stand No. 1 in Pahalgam when officers noticed several individuals allegedly gambling openly in a public place. The police party immediately intervened and apprehended all six persons on the spot.
The accused have been identified as Mohd Amin Lone, son of Ab Aziz Lone; Farooq Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Ismail Dar; Ab Rehman Raina, son of Ab Gani Raina; and Nazir Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Khaliq Lone, all residents of Pahalgam. The other two accused were identified as Gh Nabi Mir, son of Ali Mohd Mir, a resident of Wullarhama, and Lateef Ahmad Laway, son of Gh Qadir Laway, a resident of Veersaran.
Police said playing cards and stake money worth Rs 18,260 were seized during the operation.
A case has been taken up under relevant provisions of law and further investigation is underway.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any unlawful activities in their respective areas.
