Addressing a large gathering, the Chief Minister described spring as a symbol of renewal and hope, stating that the festival represents not only a seasonal change but also a new phase of development and governance in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that spring celebrations mark “a new beginning,” adding that after the formation of the present government, efforts have been made to create a new path of development in the Union Territory.

Highlighting key policy decisions, the Chief Minister referred to recent initiatives, including the provision of six free LPG cylinders to economically weaker households and free electricity under the Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

He also highlighted the decision to allow the establishment of private universities in Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at expanding access to higher education and reducing the need for students to move outside the Union Territory.

Omar Abdullah said the government is focused on strengthening rural livelihoods through sustained reforms in the agriculture and allied sectors. He said efforts are underway to increase farmers’ income, promote diversification, and enhance value addition.

He added that major initiatives such as expansion of high-density plantations, improved cold storage and marketing infrastructure, and greater use of modern technology in farming are being implemented to build a resilient agricultural economy.

The Chief Minister said South Kashmir holds significant potential for agro-tourism due to its fertile land, diverse crops, and scenic landscapes, including mustard fields, paddy cultivation, and floral blooms. He said such initiatives can generate employment opportunities and promote the region’s agrarian heritage.

He further said the government is working to develop the dairy sector under a “White Revolution” model by strengthening milk production, improving infrastructure, and supporting farmers through better veterinary care, high-yield cattle, processing units, and market linkages.

The event, organised by the Agriculture Production Department, JK, aimed to promote agro-tourism and highlight the horticultural potential of the region.

Several ministers, including Sakeena Masood Itoo and Javid Ahmad Dar, along with the Chief Minister’s advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Srigufwara-Bijbehara Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri, legislators, and senior officials attended the event.
