CM Omar Pledges Full Support to AIIMS Jammu, Calls for Replication Across JK

   

SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday reviewed the functioning of AIIMS Jammu and commended the institution for its progress in healthcare delivery and academic development. Describing it as a product of focused planning and execution, he assured full support from the government for its future expansion.

Addressing faculty, students, and medical staff, Omar Abdullah called AIIMS Jammu a reflection of strong vision and willpower. “The dream of the Hon’ble Prime Minister has taken shape here. AIIMS is now serving patients from across India,” he said, noting that the upcoming Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway will further improve access to the hospital.

The Chief Minister urged other health institutions across the Union Territory to adopt the AIIMS model and said he hoped to see AIIMS Kashmir completed and functional soon.

While releasing AIIMS Jammu’s Manual of Disaster Management, Abdullah emphasised the importance of preparedness and praised such proactive initiatives.

Referring to the recent assault on a doctor in a government hospital, the CM said violence against healthcare professionals will not be tolerated. “Doctors must not work in fear. Strict action has been ordered and justice will be ensured,” he stated.

Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani also praised AIIMS Jammu for its infrastructure, campus environment and patient-friendly services.

Prof Dr Gupta presented an overview of the institute’s progress and shared that 82 percent of discharged patients reported being “highly satisfied” with hospital services, while another 17 percent expressed satisfaction.

The Chief Minister also inspected diagnostic labs, in-patient wards, and academic facilities during his visit, reviewing the institution’s operational readiness.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by his Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani, and was received by AIIMS Jammu Executive Director and CEO, Prof  Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta. Also present were Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Samba, Rajesh Sharma, Director IIM Jammu Prof. B S Sahay, and Dean Research Lt Gen Dr Sunil Kant.
