The action follows a series of cases filed by Food Safety Officers against multiple FBOs involved in the manufacture and sale of substandard or misbranded food, operating without mandatory licences or registration, and failure to observe Good Hygienic Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices under Schedule IV of the Act.

The penalties, issued under Section 68 of the Act, aim to enforce accountability and improve food safety compliance in the district. During adjudication proceedings, ADC Bali warned that violations of food safety norms would not be tolerated and stressed the need for strict adherence to legal provisions.

He also cautioned that non-payment of the penalties within the given time would result in the cancellation of food business licences.

The Food Safety Department, Anantnag, has reiterated its zero-tolerance approach towards violations and urged all food business stakeholders to comply with safety regulations to ensure hygienic food practices across the district.
