SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday sought correction of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly record regarding a past vote on the autonomy resolution, saying former BJP leader Lala Shiv Charan Gupta had walked out of the House and was not present when the voting took place.
Omar raised the issue while referring to the record of the Assembly and said Gupta should not be shown as having voted against the autonomy resolution.
He said he was reminded of the episode while going through the record with former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, who was present in the House.
“Lala Shiv Charan Gupta did not vote for autonomy. He walked out. He did not vote against autonomy either,” Omar said.
The Chief Minister said the correct position was that Gupta was not present in the House when the vote on the autonomy resolution was taken.
Omar said the Assembly record should therefore reflect that Gupta had walked out before the voting, rather than suggesting that he had voted against the resolution. (KNS)
