While releasing the book ‘Shopian- A Paradise of Peace and Prosperity’, Chief Minister, Omar Abdulla said the book is an apt reflection of the developmental activities of all the departments in the district undertaken by the District Administration in the year 2012-13. He observed that completion of works costing Rs 260 crores and spending Rs 35.76 crores in social sector in this hilly District as reflected in the compendium, will give a fillip to the socio-economic development.

As per a statement, giving details about the actual utilization of funds in various sectors the Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, M Javed Khan (KAS), informed the Chief Minister that not only money was utilized for actual creation of socio-infrastructure but new and innovative schemes were put in place as well. He has said that the pivot of development has to be the maximum benefit to maximum people and asserted that such a consideration has been the guideline of the District Administration while undertaking the development.

The Deputy Commissioner Shopian has said that Rs 20,09 crores have been utilized for completion of four bridges namely Rambi-Ara-Bridge (Rs 6.43 crores), Turkawangam Bridge (Rs 12.50 crores), Wandana Melaurrah Bridge (0.98 crores) and Gratbal Culvert over Sangloo Nala (Rs 18.00 lacs) and an amount of Rs 26.49 crores for 13 Health Institutions and Rs 16. 50 crores for 05 Water Supply Schemes for 45 villages have been expended in District Shopian during the year, 2012-13. “The District Administration has developed an effective mechanism for speedy redressal of pubic grievances at grass root level”, he said and added that innovative ideas like Social Audit Village Committee (SAVC) and Delivery of services at Doorsteps were put into place on a Mission Mode through which at least 3000 PRC’s to about 3000 applicants were distributed at their doorsteps.
