SRINAGAR: Cold wave conditions continued in the Kashmir Valley on Friday as minimum temperatures remained below the freezing point.

Sonam Lotus, director of the MeT department said that as per today’s analysis, widespread snow/rain spell of moderate intensity is most likely during January 4-6 in both UTs with main activity on January 5 to January 6.

“Heavy Snow is expected at some places during January 5-6 may affect surface and air transportation ,” he said.

“Light Snow is expected over higher reaches of Kashmir during January 2 to January 3,” he added.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley where the minimum temperature was minus 9.0 degrees.

Pahalgam, the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 6.6 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius while Qazigund in south Kashmir registered a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 5.1 degrees Celsius, Katra 6.2, Batote minus 1.5, Banihal recorded 1.8 and Bhaderwah recorded minus 0.6 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
