SRINAGAR: Minimum temperatures continued dropped in the Kashmir Valley on Sunday due to clear overnight sky, a Met official said.
“The minimum temperatures dropped further across Jammu and Kashmir today due to clear night sky. These temperatures are likely to drop further as the weather is likely to remain dry during the next 24 hours,” he said.
Director, meteorological department of J&K and Ladakh, Sonam Lotus said that the dry weather spell will break by the night of December 14.
“As of now, light snow and rain in the plains of J&K are most likely during the nights of December 14 and 15,” he said. He said that the higher reaches especially of north Kashmir may receive moderate snowfall during the above period.
“There’s no forecast of any heavy rain and snow during this spell of western disturbance,” he added.
The famous hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in Kashmir with a low of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius while Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.0 degree Celsius.
The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.2 degree Celsius.
Srinagar recorded the lowest night temperature of the season so far as the minimum temperature recorded in the city was minus 3.0 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorological Department said.
Kupwara township of north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius while Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded minus 2.3 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 7.7 degrees Celsius, Katra recorded 7.0, Banihal 0.8, Batote recorded 3.1 and Bhaderwah minus 0.9 as the night’s lowest temperatures.
