SRINAGAR: Cold wave conditions continued in the Kashmir Valley on Monday as minimum temperatures remained below the freezing point.
An official from the Metrological department Kashmir said, “The cold wave condition will continue in J&K and Ladakh till January 22 after which another spell of light to moderate snow/rain will occur with the main activity on January 24.”
Qazigund in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley where minimum temperature was minus -8.3 degrees.
Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 6.8 degrees.
Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 6.9 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 5.2 degrees Celsius last night.
Jammu city recorded 8.4 degrees Celsius, Katra 6.7, Batote 2.3, Banihal recorded minus 0.6 and Bhaderwah recorded minus 0.5 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
