The meeting, held in Srinagar, included senior officials from key departments such as Srinagar district administration, LCMA, Srinagar Development Authority, Tourism, UEED, and the University of Kashmir. The focus was on defining guidelines for structures that were built legally before the High Court imposed a ban on construction around the lake on July 19, 2002.

Key points discussed included eligibility norms for recognising pre-ban structures, criteria for issuing permissions by BOCA LCMA for repairs or reconstruction, and requirements for proper waste disposal from permitted buildings. The committee also discussed ways to promote sustainable construction using alternate technologies, while ensuring adherence to aesthetic and heritage norms in the area.

The policy aims to strike a balance between environmental conservation and the needs of residents living in the Dal and Nigeen lake areas.
