National Conference Friday blasted the ruling BJP-PDP dispensation for its concerted efforts aimed at destabilizing the situation in Jammu & Kashmir and sowing the seeds of communal discord.

“PDP in connivance with its masters in Delhi has taken it upon itself to weaken the special status J&K enjoys within the constitution of India. All this talk of establishing Sainik Colonies in Kashmir is nothing but a concerted move to realize the dreams of those right wing parties who are hell bent in creating communal discord in the state and ensuring that Kashmiris become a minority here,” said NC Provincial, according to a party statement.

While speaking at a daylong convention involving distribution of party membership for Amira Kadal Constituency at Community Hall Ikhrajpora, Nasir said, “Before 2014 Assembly elections, an impression was created that PDP is the only and viable alternative for bringing Kashmir out of misery  and they will herald a new era of development. Alas! That was not to be. Within five months only, PDP’s baloon of promises has deflated. It has done nothing except for giving sermons to those who ask for their rights.”

Taking a dig at the claims of PDP-BJP coalition regarding rehabilitation of flood victims Nasir said, “Amira Kadal has been and is the fountain head of Kashmir’s political movement. Unfortunately it was also the worst hit in 2014 September floods. Now it has been almost one year and no substantial relief has reached to victims. Households, shop owners and other infrastructure which suffered massive damage particularly in areas like Ikhrajpora, Jawaharnagar, Rajbagh, Mehjoor nagar, Indra Nagar, Gogji bagh have not been compensated yet. Whatever has been given to them is peanuts compared to what was provided to flood victims of Uttarakhand. And the most unfortunate part is that even in distribution of relief cheques, it has come to fore that some influential persons who are close to PDP have been given cheques worth Rs 25000 and Rs 50000 only.”

Nasir gave an ultimatum to the government that if cheques are not distributed to all those who have suffered maximum damage in the floods, NC will come out on roads. “If government doesn’t introduce a comprehensive relief package for all the sufferers including households, shop owners in coming days we will protest and come on roads.”

The convention was attended by MLC and Central Zone Head Ali Mohd Dar, District President Srinagar Peer Afaq, Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, Provincial Secretary YNC Mudasir Shahmiri, Srinagar District Committee, Amira Kadal Block Committee members and delegates.
