Incumbent Langate lawmaker and Awami Ittehad Party chief Er Rasheed has expressed concern over former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remark in which he asked people to condemn Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for rejecting the option of independent Kashmir.

Interacting with various deputations in Kupwara, Rasheed asked Omar to also condemn the late Sheikh Abdullah for seeking plebiscite and Farooq Abdullah for rejecting the idea of an independent Kashmir.

“No doubt Geelani has a lot to explain and justify but it is mere hypocrisy on behalf of Omar Abdullah to pick selective chapters of J&K history just for his political gains. The way Omar Abdullah has interpreted Abbasi’s statement, it seems as if he is a champion of independent Kashmir,” Sheikh Rasheed stated.

The lone Independent MLA, heading the Awami Ittehad party (AIP), said while Abbasi had rejected the option of independent Kashmir to avoid confusions, Farooq Abdullah had said so “to create confusion and dilute the Kashmir cause by talking about the restoration of autonomy”, as it is only the UN resolutions which make J&K an internationally recognised dispute.”
