SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said he had strongly raised the alleged verbal abuse of a junior JKAS officer by a senior IAS officer during an online government meeting with the Chief Secretary.
I’ve seen the video of the online government meeting that is circulating on social media. Prima facie the conduct of the senior officer was not in keeping with the standards expected of a senior IAS officer & the subsequent threats issued to a junior JKAS officer only make matters worse. I’ve taken this up in the strongest possible terms with the Chief Secretary. Unfortunately as a UT control over IAS officers rests with Lok Bhavan but as CM I’ve instructed the CS to ensure the JKAS officer faces no retributive action.

In a post on X, Abdullah said the video of the meeting circulating on social media showed conduct that was prima facie inconsistent with the standards expected of a senior IAS officer.
He said the alleged threats made against the junior officer afterwards had further aggravated the matter.
The Chief Minister said he had directed the Chief Secretary to ensure that the JKAS officer was not subjected to any retaliatory action.
Abdullah noted that control over IAS officers in the Union Territory rested with Lok Bhavan, but said he had intervened in his capacity as Chief Minister to safeguard the junior officer against retribution.
The controversy followed the circulation of a purported video of an official online meeting, reportedly linked to Mission YUVA, which triggered criticism over the alleged treatment of the woman officer.
