KL Report

SRINAGAR

Continuing its election boycott campaign, Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir (HCJK) leaders led by Shabir Ahmad Shah Sunday visited various areas of Shopian today. The leaders accompanying Shah included JKLF (R) chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar, Islamic Political Party chairman Muhammad Yusuf Naqash, Muhammad Yasin Ataai and dozens of other Hurriyat activists. All the leaders including Shabir Ahmad Shah addressed a huge gathering there.

According to a statement issued to KNS, Shah while addressing the gathering said that Kashmir issue is an issue of right to self determination which was granted to whole subcontinent including Jammu and Kashmir. “But India with its military aggression usurped this right of Kashmiris. Since then we have been rendering innumerable sacrifices. We are indebted to our more than five lakh martyrs and in such situation the forcible rulers are in process of staging election drama are diverting the attention of world community from freedom movement prevailing in Kashmir.”

Shah said the nation by acting wisely should boycott the both parliamentary as well as assembly polls so as to send a message to world that Kashmir issue has not been resolved yet and that we are still under Indian forcible occupation where forces rule the state and inflict worst kind of brutalities upon the people as they have been bestowed with the power of black laws.

He said India’s main motive of these elections is to cover up the crimes of oppression upon the people of Kashmir and to give democratic colour to its forcible occupation. Terming the conducting of elections in presence of more than seven lakh forces as ridiculous Shah appealed people to foil India’s forcible and fraud elections here by not casting their votes so that freedom movement may be taken to its logical end.

Expressing serious concern over the continuous arrest spree of youth within the length and breadth of the valley, Shah severely condemned the high handedness of forces. “Dozens of youth of Shahr-e-Khaas, Hajin, Tral and other areas who were severely injured by brutality of Army and forces are in critical condition in hospitals. Arresting fathers in lieu of sons and sons in lieu of fathers is the height of oppression,” Shah added.

However, on their return, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Muhammad Yasin Ataai were arrested by a large contingent of police at Shigan, Shopian amid protests by people who demanded their release.
