Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President and MLC G N Monga Friday questioned the State government’s decision to postpone by-election to Islamabad Lok Sabha seat saying the ruling PDP has misled the Election Commission of India over situation in the Valley.

In a statement issued here he said that fearing defeat the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was afraid to go to the people. “The defeat of PDP from Islamabad LS seat is an inevitable and foregone conclusion. The deferral of by-polls is a clear sign of PDP’s fear of reprisal,” he said.

“The deferment of the by-polls is a clear sign of PDP’s fear of reprisal at the grassroots level after its political surrenders and successive U-turns on all its promises.”

He lashed out at the PDP government for misleading the Election Commission of India that situation in the Kashmir was not stable for holding the elections. “The state Government has been claiming that situation in Kashmir is normal now. If it was the case why did it mislead the ECI,” he questioned.
