The Z-Morh Tunnel, a vital infrastructure project in Jammu and Kashmir, was conceptualised and initiated under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. The foundation stone was laid on October 4, 2012, by Sh. C.P. Joshi, the then Minister of Road Transport and Highways. Sh. Rahul Gandhi, serving as the Guest of Honor, also attended the ceremony.

The tunnel will play a strategic link to ensure year-round connectivity to Sonamarg. The inaugural ceremony was attended by CM Omar, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, among other dignitaries.
