SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Congress president Tariq Ahmad Karra on Thursday said the party would not accept ministerial positions in the Union Territory Government until full statehood is restored.
Addressing a gathering during a programme in Reasi, Karra said restoration of statehood had been the Congress’s position from the outset and that the party would continue to adhere to it until Jammu and Kashmir regained its full statehood.
His remarks come amid discussions over the Congress potentially joining the National Conference-led JK Government.
Karra reiterated that restoration of statehood remained a key demand of the Congress and indicated that the party’s position would not change unless the Union Territory was granted full statehood.
The statement sets out the Congress’s position on participation in the JK Council of Ministers while keeping the restoration of statehood as a condition for accepting ministerial office.
