Suspected militants Saturday in North Kashmir attacked a police personal, decamping with his service rifle.

Talking to KNS, DIG North Ghulam Hassan Bhat stated that unknown person carried out an attack on the police personal on Saturday with the Axe and got away with his service rifle. “We can say that some unknown person carried out this attack. Whether that was a militant attack or not, cannot be ascertained yet,” Bhat said.

Reports informed that Firdous Ahmad Baba, a constable with the Indian Reserve Police, who was posted at the main market of Pattan town, was attacked by a group of militants with an axe. The militants managed to flee with the policeman’s INSAS rifle.

Firdous was with hit with an axe in his head and neck and has received critical injuries.  He was later shifted to the hospital where his condition remained critical till the last reports came in. Later, forces cordoned the area and launched a massive manhunt for the militants.
